First edition. Memoirs published by Dussieux and Soulié. A very important source for the history of the reign of Louis XV, these memoirs of the Duke of Luynes begin in 1735 when his wife was appointed lady-in-waiting to the Queen. "He thus made his entry into that intimate society which the queen called her "honest people" and undertook to write a diary of historical events and court facts, a work without merit or literary concern, but a precious document for the study of the aristocratic society of the time." His memoirs ended when he died in 1758.
